Racing Program PDF Print E-mail

The racing program chosen for each horse will decided by the Trainer in consultation with the Racing Manager.

While suggestions from individuals will be considered, it should be understood that the trainer is the expert we employ to map our horse's career and he will have the final call.

Typically most horse's will commence their careers in low grade races such as maidens and Class 1 races on the provincial circuit, that is Strathalbyn, Gawler, Balaklava and Murray Bridge. Some horses especially two year olds may have their first races in the metro area if considered likely to be competitive.

We are reluctant to push horses too hard early preferring them to find their feet and preserve them as long term racing propositions. We would rather a horse wins 10 races over three years than 4 races in one year if that results in the horse being "burnt out". We also believe in placing horses in races in which they will be competitive so would rather win a provincial Class race than run sixth in the city.

A standard preparation involves pre-training for four to six weeks followed by full training for four weeks. The horse is then likely to take part in jump outs (unofficial trials) and official barrier trials prior to commencing in actual races.
